Some people are saying that the referees mic should be open during games this is why not! This is a video clip of an experiment from the 80′s where David Ellerary was mic’d up during a Milwall vs Arsenal match
This incident took place in the league cup this week. It’s an interesting one with the assistant signalling for offside the ball goes back to the goalkeeper who when challenged head buts his opponent. The referee sends him him off after consultation with his assistant.
A few thoughts on the incident struck me straight away. If the player is offside has the referee blown straight away and the ball has gone back to the keeper to be setup for the offside, and if so technically the ball is out of ay and restart is the offside. Has he played advantage given the space the keeper has to keep the game moving, and but is there an advantage when the ball is back there?

With the Euro’s kicking off on Friday, Graham Poll has put together a rundown of the Referee‘s who will take charge of the fixtures doing the tournament. With some new names its worth a look, and with the first set of fixtures due out tomorrow. It’s a chance to learn a bit more about the man who the English press will slaughter when a decision goes against England.

Just spotted this on refereeforum.net, what a great example of a lack of basic knowledge with some pundits. If anyone knows who the pundit is, would be interesting to know how it was recived. The clip is from the 2010 world cup and the opening game between South Africa and Mexico.

Assessing today and a few shots
This week has been a odd week. I’ve spent the best part of it manually configuring our new android smartphones for work. Fun when it’s yours not when it’s someone else’s.
So I’ll be glad to get out tomorrow when I’ll be assessing. It’s my first one of the new marking season and using the new forms for this level.
