Casio World Cup Watch
As is the case people seem to struggle to buy me things for Christmas. So I usually get something Referee or Football related. Although I had already given my list to Santa so had a rough idea of those things I was getting ![]()
About November time my second watch that counts up and never stops died on me. I had tried to change the time on it after the clocks changed. Since then it wouldn’t appear to count unless i pressed the lap button about 5 times and swore at it. Then it would work, but then starting beeping randomly. So in the end I asked Santa for the Casio World Cup timer.

Although I haven’t had the chance to use and wont until next Saturday. From the initial playing around ive been impressed. Its got some great thought out features. One of these is the Vibra alarm. Instead of it beeping to let you know time is up, it will vibrate so the players dont hear it. This is great if your the Assistant nearest the technical area.
Another great idea is the auto light. This works when you tilt your wrist to 45 degree angle. Its also meant to happen when your wrist is straight but doesn’t seem to (?). This may seem insignificant. But think about how many times you struggle to read your watch because of the crap floodlights. Now you dont need to fidle and can just flick your wrist.
Another feature it has is if your using the stopwatch it will tell you how long you have stoped the watch for so you know how much injury time you have. Now I don’t know if this is me being simple, but it doesn’t quite work how I expected. I thought it would have the time the watch was stopped for. What it actually does is the top of the screen keeps counting and the bottom stops. You then need to work out your difference. Not a big problem but a small thing that i was a little disappointed by.
It also has count down timers for various time frames.
One thing I’m a bit concerned about is the quality of the start/stop button. It really seems to need a good push to get it to stop/start. This may ease of with use.
Although this is all great me talking about it, i just need to use it and put it to the test.

I agree that this is an excellent watch.
I also had the initial disappointment of the timers not working as expected. To correct this, I now start the timer by pressing the orange button at the top right (which starts both timers) and then pressing it again immediately. This stops the top timer while the main timer continues, and for stoppages I press the button again to start and stop the top timer. Through all this the main timer keeps counting. When the watch vibrates after 45 minutes, I allow the game to continue until the time shown at the top is added to the 45.
The watch is also great for the fitness test. I set it to vibrate after every 1m 50s to let me know that I should have finished a lap. I therefore maintain a steady pace without being distracted.
I agree it is frustrating. I think i would prefer it if the main display was the one that stopped and the top one kept running. as i have it on vibrate i am not always 100% sure it has restarted
Good tip for the fitness test. I will have to remeber that.
