I got a call around 11.45 from the home club saying they had concerns over the pitch and the away team wanted to know before traveling.  Given that the away club were looking to leave in 30mins and I live 50 mins away and wasnt ready this wasnt going to work.  I agreed to get sorted now, pick the assistant up on the way and get to the ground around 1pm to inspect the pitch.  While the away team could travel they could at least turn around.

Fast forward to 1.10pm, due to traffic in town I hadn’t got there quite as quick as I first thought.   I walked on the pitch in my shoes, boots in hand and thought frick this is hard.   I put the boots on and walked the pitch with my assistant and this wasnt looking good.  It was fine in places but hard and rutted in others.  Looking at the sun it was going down behind one of the stands and it was cold already.   One part of the pitch was fine, but all of a sudden you would find hard ruts.

This was off.  looking in the paper today there was a fair few off around the area that were off due to frozen pitches, and one that was abandoned at 1-1 (been interesting if one had been winning)

Next Game – Tuesday Night, the re-arranged game from just before Christmas.  Which reminds me, best ring my assistants!
