It was my 3rd Contrib line on Saturday, and it may as well have been July it was baking in the first half. Those people who say make football a summer sport are muppet. The game went with out too much problem although a bit of an error on my part made things a bit more tricky for the man in the middle.
Home team were losing at the time (and in the end lost the game) bit of a pinball moment with the ball in front of me, I went corner. However the Referee felt it was a goal kick and went for the goal kick. I dropped the flag and carried out. However a a few minutes later the home team keeper made a comment to the Referee and he ended up being cautioned for dissent, like wise another player ended up in the book for a bit of frustration. The assessor also agreed that it was a goal kick though. We talked about how it may have been managed better and avoided although agreed if it had been a throw in or down the other end at that time no one would mention it.
I dont know why, but im finding crabbing a bit awkward at the moment. It doesnt seem to feel natural and feels very strained. Not sure why this is to be honest, it cant really be lack of practice now with three lines under my belt. So far ive not felt that I have lined as well as I can, not to sure why this is.
This is where refereeing can be awkward. As a player you could go out and hit balls at a goal until you get the knack back, but as a Referee or Assistant how do you deal with this. It’s not like I can get a couple of people to recreate offside scenario’s for me over the park.
