Warm Up

A useful article has just been posted on the refworld site.  Matt Weston from the PGMOL talks about what a warm up should consisest of.   Some of it you may have seen or done before but its still good to understand the reason behind what you do.

Its a really good piece to give you an idea of the thing you should be doing.  However at the same time I think you should also do what your comfortable with.  I make a point of saying to my assistants to do what they are happy with.  Ive unfortunately witnessed an assistant coming back for the first time from injury (it wasnt me!) get destroyed before the match by a 35 miute warm up.  Who really does that benefit?

One thing I do find though with the warm up is that it can be a bit automatic.  Diferent things Ive experined is doing the various shuttles over the lenght of the pitch.  So starting with bum kicks, then after 15 yards switch to high knees up the  pitch.  Also a simple variation is to take it in turns calling them out.  However there is a rule, that if one person says side ways running.  If the next person says sideways running facing the other direction they buy the drinks in the bar as its a bit easy
