Its been quite nice this season to get to go to some grounds I have never been to before. Yesterday was another to add to the list as I visited Carlton Town for their fixture against Spalding.    Its a nice setup at Carlton and its clear they have worked hard on their facility’s.
It was clear that the wind was going to be a factor as it was a strong wind blowing right down the pitch (or up i guess depending on when you were stood).  Although it wasnt an influence in the game in the end. It meant that during the 2nd half Carlton couldn’t clear the ball and at one point a goal kick bent right back and ended up only 30 yards from goal for a throw!
During the first half while I only had to flag for 3 or 4 offsides. Â I had the same amount where I had to make a decision where the attacker was in an offside position but not gaining any advantage etc. Â These are always a bit awkward as the defenders don’t really understand the reason for not giving the offside. Â Â What was good from my point of view for the 2nd half the other assistant had the same situation and this is a benefit or not keeping the same back four.
With about 25 minutes of the game going we had one hell of a downpour combined with the wind it made it difficult to concentrate, I really had to grip the flag as with the wind and the wet handle I could feel it blowing out of my hands!
This was the first “line” I had done since the 26th November when I had a shocker and so it was nice to get back on the line. I have a run now of 3 games on the bounce all on the line which is good and probably the most ive done on the spin all season.
