The World Club Championship has just finished and during the tournament there was an experiment with the ball.  The ball contained a micro chip that was to help with goal line decisions. It works with the assistance of a magnetic field generated within the goals and would report back to a Referee if a goal was scored.
This was a revamped version of the ball that was used in 2005 which had some poor results.  Although FIFA haven’t commented on the results it will be discussed further at the International Board in March. Â
Player feeling on the flight of the ball was mixed.  Clarence Seedorf said ” For various technical reasons we still have to get used to certain trajectories, but generally we are able to kick it well,” said the Dutch veteran.  However Hugo Ibarra of Boca Juniors was not so happy “If you use a new ball in such an important tournament, players have to put in a lot of effort to get used to it.”
