Fitness
During the pre-season a lot of us have the pleasure of fitness tests. How many of us once these are done take our eye of the ball and just use games as away of maintaining fitness.
Unfortunately as someone who quite easily puts weight on I have to work hard to keep fit and keep my weight down. With hurting my back I hadn’t done any exercise since the 26th of August and this week I have a MFA game. A fixture last season I would have been an Assistant on. So excluding a county cup final and a 3rd round FA Vase middle 4 years ago this is definitely high up there in the top 5 of the biggest games Ive refereed.
So it was key that this week I tested my back and also got my fitness back. I wasn’t to concerned as I had only had just over a week off. Around my house I have a 4 mile route that I use quite a lot during the summer its not the best in winter as it has a shortage of street lights (like my whole area to be honest). I usually run this in around 32minutes, however on Tuesday I ran it in over 35mins!! I felt like hell afterwards and was quite shocked.
The good news’s was that my back was fine, but what happened to the fitness. I was adamant i needed to get back out again this week but due to work it was going to be difficult. So yesterday morning I dragged myself out of bed at 5.30am and went out for a run and this time I felt fine with no problems at all. Phew!
Tuesday may just have been one of those days. I believe fitness though comes easier when your using it. Once the lungs & heart get a chance to take it easy they go on holiday. Imagine if they had gone on holiday on a match day. I would been in for one tough 90minutes.
